An overview of how our belt system works and what you need to do to achieve these belts?
We use a progressive grading system (PGS) where you work through your belts at your own speed and pace, and have the techniques ticked off when they are at a suitable level. This is done for every belt except for black belt.
You will be given a grading sheet which lists all the techniques that you need for that belt, so you have everything in front of you.
We do not and will not ever give you a belt for just turning up, as these are pretty much pointless and not worth anything if you only have to attend, and in order to achieve our belts and work through the rankings, you need to perform the techniques and show improvement from belt to belt.
Our class format means that you will be taught and shown these techniques each week by a qualified and experienced instructor, who has many years training behind them and a minimum of a nationally recognised 1st degree black belt in what they are teaching and showing you, they will break down each technique and show you exactly how it needs to be done.
As you become more experienced, the gradings naturally get easier as you learn more, but they are by no means easy and you earn each and every belt you take, and when you do, you will be very proud of what you have achieved.
On average, a black belt takes around 4 years with us, however that depends on how many times per week you train, how quickly you pick it up etc…
Our 3rd degree senior black belts have been training with us for over 15 years and our chief instructor has been training for over 30 years and more than 27 years teaching.
When you have completed each belt, you will receive that coloured belt and a nationally recognised certificate, which generally allows you to transfer that grade if you move to another club.
Gradings are not compulsory and you do not have to do them, they are completely optional.
If you want an easy black belt that’s handed on a plate to you, or to receive a belt for just turning up, we are absolutely not the club for you, as you will have to earn each and every belt you receive.
