Impact martial arts safety record

Quite often I get asked the same question “Is kickboxing safe?” and I give the same response pretty much every time, Yes, I believe it is very safe.

Yes of course it does carry the same risks as any sport does, but as the chief instructor at Impact martial arts, it’s my job to ensure everyone goes home safely.

To do this, there are lots of things we do..

Carry out risk assessments
Ensure all of the instructors are properly trained
Make sure we are wearing the right safety training equipment
Ensuring all of our pads and equipment are properly maintained
Making sure the places we train are bright, clean and safe

And if the worst happens, our instructors are first aid trained.

All of this happens because we care, and we are part of a martial arts organisation that makes sure we do all of these things, and this is all part of the CMAA instructor training requirements.

We as a club also have to have the right club insurance to make sure we are covered in the event of an accident, and also each student needs to have their own member to member insurance policy as well, and you can find out more about that here.

So, our safety record over the years..

2019 – 0 Accidents
2020 – 1 Accident
2021 – n/a covid time
2022 – 1 Accident
2023 – 2 Accidents
2024 – 1 Accident
2025 – 1 Accident
2026 – 1 Accident to date

As you can see from the graph below, the number of sessions we run (yellow bar) versus the number of accidents (red block), which I believe is very good indeed, of course I would like 0 for every year, but the nature of what we do means that we can only do our best to reduce this as much as possible.

Lastly, a majority of the accidents we have seen are twisted ankles, clashed shins, or someone has fallen over and hurt themselves when doing a technique, which are all fairly common in any type of sport.
