Free Self-Defence Courses for Schools & Businesses across Wiltshire and Hampshire
At Impact Martial Arts, as well as our regular classes, we want to give something back to the communities we work in
Giving Something Back to Our Local Community
At Impact Martial Arts, we believe everyone deserves to feel safer, more confident and better equipped to deal with challenging situations.
That’s why we’re introducing a new initiative to offer FREE self-defence and personal safety courses for schools, businesses, clubs and community organisations across Wiltshire and Hampshire.
With decades of martial arts training and teaching experience, we want to use our knowledge to give something back to the communities we have been part of for so many years.
These sessions are designed for organisations that would like to provide their staff, members or groups with an introduction to personal safety and basic self-protection skills, but may not have the time or opportunity to attend regular martial arts classes.
We’ll come to you, bring the necessary training equipment and deliver the session at your premises, subject to suitability. There is no charge for the course.
Who Are These Free Courses For?
This initiative is intended for organisations, rather than individuals booking personal lessons.
We’re inviting enquiries from:
- Schools and educational settings looking to introduce appropriate personal safety awareness.
- Businesses and employers wanting to give their staff practical information about personal safety and handling difficult situations.
- Sports clubs and community clubs interested in helping their members develop confidence and awareness.
- Community groups and local organisations wanting to provide a useful and accessible safety session.
- Charities and voluntary organisations looking for ways to support the wellbeing and personal safety of the people they work with.
Whether you’re a school, a small business, a larger workplace or a community organisation, we’d be happy to discuss what might be suitable for your group.
What Will the Course Cover?
The aim is to provide a practical, accessible introduction to self-defence and personal protection.
The content can be adapted to suit the age group, setting and needs of the organisation.
Depending on the group and the session agreed, topics may include:
1. Awareness and Avoidance
One of the most important aspects of self-protection is recognising potential problems early and taking sensible steps to avoid them.
We’ll discuss situational awareness, recognising warning signs, maintaining personal space and understanding when it may be safer to leave a situation rather than engage with it.
2. Verbal De-escalation and Managing Conflict
Not every difficult situation needs to become a confrontation.
Participants can learn about communication, setting boundaries, keeping calm where possible and using appropriate verbal responses to help reduce tension.
We’ll also discuss recognising when a situation is escalating and when seeking help is the safest option.
3. Basic Physical Self-Protection
Where appropriate for the group, the session can include simple, controlled practical exercises introducing basic self-protection principles.
The emphasis is on understanding personal space, protecting yourself, creating an opportunity to escape and getting to safety.
Exercises will be adapted to the participants and carried out in a controlled training environment. The aim is not to teach people to fight, but to help them understand practical options for protecting themselves.
4. Understanding the Law
Self-defence involves legal responsibilities as well as physical skills.
We’ll introduce the basic principles of self-defence under the law of England and Wales, including the importance of necessity, proportionality and the circumstances in which force may be lawful.
The law is fact-specific, and there is no simple formula that makes every use of force lawful. We’ll help participants understand the general principles and why avoiding confrontation, where possible, is so important.
This is an educational introduction, not formal legal advice.
5. What to Do When Something Goes Wrong
Personal safety also includes knowing what to do after an incident.
Depending on the group, this may include seeking assistance, reporting an incident, contacting the emergency services when appropriate and considering the safety of others.
The overall message is simple: awareness, prevention, sensible decisions and getting to safety are more important than winning a confrontation.
Professional Instruction and Real Martial Arts Experience
At Impact Martial Arts, martial arts is about much more than kicking and punching. It’s about discipline, responsibility, confidence and understanding how physical skills should be used appropriately.
Our club was established in 1999, and we bring decades of martial arts training and teaching experience to the work we do.
The initiative will be delivered by appropriately qualified and experienced instructors, with relevant safeguarding and suitability requirements considered for each setting.
Our credentials include recognised martial arts qualifications and training, Enhanced DBS Checked instructors, and our chief instructor, Wayne Timlin, holds a CMAA-recognised 7th Dan Black Belt in Kickboxing.
We understand the importance of professionalism, appropriate instruction and creating a safe environment in which people can learn.
For sessions involving children or young people, we will discuss the organisation’s safeguarding requirements and the arrangements needed before confirming a visit, and our instructors DBS checks can be shared with you prior to arranging anything.
We want organisations to feel confident about who is delivering their session and how it will be conducted.
Want to know more about our instructors and their credentials, check our instructor page here.
We Come to You — At No Cost
We understand that getting staff or members away from work, arranging transport or attending evening classes isn’t always practical.
That’s why we’re bringing this initiative directly to organisations.
Our community course includes:
- No charge for the agreed session.
- Delivery at your school, workplace, club or organisation.
- Training equipment brought by our team, as agreed for the session.
- Content tailored to the group and setting.
- Practical demonstrations and appropriate participation where suitable.
- An introduction to personal safety, self-protection and relevant legal principles.
We’ll discuss your requirements in advance, including the number of participants, available space, the group’s needs and the most appropriate format.
The intention is to remove as many barriers as possible and make useful safety education more accessible.
Travel, availability and any specific requirements will be discussed when arranging the session.
Why Are We Offering This for Free?
Impact Martial Arts has been teaching in the local area since 1999. Over the years, martial arts has given people opportunities to develop fitness, confidence, discipline and skills that can benefit them well beyond the training hall.
We believe that experience can be put to good use outside our regular classes, too.
Not everybody can commit to weekly martial arts training. Some people work shifts, have family responsibilities or simply cannot attend regular classes.
Schools, employers and community organisations may also want to provide basic self-protection education without having a budget for specialist training.
We want to help bridge that gap.
This initiative is our way of contributing something practical and positive to the communities around us. There is no obligation to join Impact Martial Arts, and these sessions are not intended as a sales presentation for our regular classes.
We simply want to share useful knowledge, encourage safer decision-making and help people feel better informed.
