Insurance policies for martial arts
Insurance is a very important part of doing martial arts, and on this page we will explain what insurance we have and what is/isn’t covered.
The club (IMA) has a £10,000,000 public liability insurance policy, which covers you for any negligence caused by IMA, or by something we as a club have not done to ensure your safety. Details of this insurance policy can be found in our student area, along with a copy of the certificate.
Anybody that has been training with us as a club for more than 4 weeks must join us as a member, this will then automatically give you a CMAA member to member student insurance policy once the form has been sent off to the CMAA by the club.
CMAA student insurance cover is £5,000,000 member/member and public liability only. This is free of charge to current CMAA members and provides cover should they injure another or damage property while training which results in a claim being lodged against them personally.
This is negligence/fault based which means in practice that all incidents are covered so long as someone is at fault/to blame.
Pure accidents where there is no negligence or contributory negligence are not included in this level of free cover, for example.. if you are training in the club and fall and hurt yourself, and there is nobody at fault, other than a “pure accident” the insurance policy does NOT cover you for any time off work, or make any payments in any way to you.
This is because of the nature of what we do, and when signing up for martial arts and kickboxing, it is explained to everyone that there is some level of risk with what we do, kickboxing is a full contact sport and like any contact sport, there is a small amount of risk involved.
We as a club do everything to ensure people are safe, we carry out risk assessments, we make sure we have policies and procedures in place for sparring safely, and so much more, however there is still a small element of risk to what we do.
If members require a higher level of cover it is suggested that they seek “no fault” personal accident cover of their own.
Please note – In order to be covered by our free insurance CMAA membership must be in date NOW – expired members will not be covered. Students are responsible for ensuring their member to member insurance is kept up to date.
