Some of the team at Impact martial arts planned a trip out to Thailand to experience the ancient art of Muay Thai first hand.
Muay Thai, or Thai boxing, is a traditional full-contact combat sport and martial art from Thailand known as the “Art of Eight Limbs.” It utilizes punches, kicks, elbows, and knees, allowing practitioners to use eight points of contact rather than two (fists) or four (fists/feet) in other combat sports.
Training out in Thailand was ten times harder than back home, this is their life, 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, no excuses, they just get on with it, and they are so very very good at it as well.
We visited and trained at a number of Muay Thai gyms across Thailand, including Master Toddy’s, Diamond Muay Thai and Phuwanan Muay Thai plus a couple more.
We were greeted with a warm welcome at every gym and treated like one of the family, and we all gained some very valuable experience from this trip.
As well as the training, we also went to watch a number of fights and shows that were being held.
Below are a couple of photos of the team, and the chief instructor of impact martial arts, Wayne Timlin training at these gyms in Thailand.
