How safe are martial arts? 2024 Statistics for IMA

How safe is martial arts and kickboxing in terms of injuries?

As with any sport, including full contact kickboxing, there is always a risk of injury due to the nature of what we do.

Think of it the same way as anything we do, how safe is riding a bike? How safe is crossing the road? There is a risk with everything we do, so it’s about how safe we make our training,

As with any responsible martial arts club, we take everyone’s safety seriously and have a number of policies in place, including risk assessments, sparring and regular training polices, to help keep people safe.

In 2024, we ran 151 kickboxing and fitness sessions at impact martial arts and had 1 recordable injury, and this was done where 2 students clashed knees quite badly during a regular sparring session, which did require medical treatment for the injury.

We do everything we can to keep people safe, but some accidents are completely unavoidable.

I’ve also added the data on accidents for the previous 5 years as well, which shows a pretty good track record.
