For the eagle eyed amongst you, you will notice that the 4th Dan to 5th Dan were issued on the same day, this was because of a double grading award in front of a WKA grading panel in Birmingham, they obviously thought I had done well and deserved it.
I think there were also some other adjustments made through my Dan grades because of my overall time served from white belt, so some time served awards were made through my Dan grades, which is not completely unusual. 17 years from white belt to 5th Dan black belt is about right for overall training times to get to this level, so I made up a little room in my later training years.
My overall time frame of 36 years training and teaching to 7th Dan black belt is also feels about right as well, but the belts have never been important, learning, growing and sharing as a martial artist has always been the important thing.
Below is Wayne Timlin receiving his 7th Dan black belt on Tuesday 12th May 2026.

As chief instructor of impact martial arts for over 27 years, and doing martial arts for more than 36 years, I have had the pleasure of training with some great people in my time, and that has been all over the world.
Throughout his martial arts journey, Wayne has trained with and learned from many respected martial artists and instructors, including Grand Master Sken, one of the pioneers responsible for introducing Muay Thai to the UK. Wayne continues to develop his knowledge through seminars, instructor development and ongoing training. Also many other great names in martial arts, including Mark Weir (UFC), Lee Rivers, Bob Spour, Jonathan Haggerty (One championship), Grand Master Den Butler and many different training camps in Thailand and other countries.
I Have also earned a number of very important qualifications along the way, which has helped me develop as a person and be better at what I do, and this is all with the amazing support of Andy Morrell, the head of the CMAA.
A certified CMAA Level 1 Martial arts instructor UK (MAIUK) Certified CMAA Self Defence instructor, Certified CMAA MAIUK Course trainer.
I think its always good for everyone to try multiple styles of martial arts before choosing one that really suits them, and over the years I have tried out and earned belts in many styles, as of writing this, Wayne Timlin holds a red belt in kick jitsu.
Cobra kick jitsu is a syllabus developed by Andrew Morrell at the CMAA and combines kickboxing and Ju Jitsu, see the kick jitsu link above for the full details.
Below are the kick jitsu belts and the dates the chief instructor of Impact martial arts, Wayne Timlin, has earned to date, and he is still working through the syllabus, which is taught within the club by Eiros Pike who holds a 4th Dan black belt in kick jitsu.
