What an opportunity to train with Mark “The Wizard” Weir, who is a now retired from professional fighting, but was a mixed martial artist and a pioneer of British combat sports.
Born in Gloucester in 1967, he became the first Black athlete born in the United Kingdom to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is globally recognized for securing a legendary 10-second knockout victory during his promotion debut at UFC 38 in 2002.
A real life UFC fighter who at that time held the record for the fastest knockout in the UFC, I was a little star struck as I had watched Mark’s fighting career and I had followed him as a fighter.
This guy was fast, sharp, extremely talented and skilled and it was clear to see why he was fighting at such an elite level, fortunately he was a really nice guy and took it easy on us all.
